"But can it carbonate...?"

Bill Turnau

We get asked all the time if the Drinkmate soda makers can carbonate specific drinks. It's understandable, though! While other carbonation machines are limited to sparkling water, Drinkmate soda makers are different—they allow you to carbonate any drink.

So let's nip this in the bud once and for all. What can the Drinkmate carbonate?

1. Fizzy Wine?

No champagne? No problem. In fact, this one is one of our favorites. Fill the bottle with your favorite wine and give it some sparkle! Sparkling Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio? Easy. How about a sparkling Moscato, or sparkling Sangria?

Pro-Tip: Combine your favorite white wine with a pulp-free orange juice, and carbonate for a delicious homemade mimosa!

2. Carbonated Tea?

Low-calorie, high-flavor fizz. You don't need to buy the expensive canned sparkling teas, just make your own at home! Simply brew your favorite tea, chill it in the fridge, and carbonate it with your Drinkmate soda maker!

Pro-Tip: Mix your favorite iced tea with lemonade and sweetener of your choice for a perfect summer refreshment.

3. Sparkling Juice?

Apple, grape, cranberry, orange... just about every fruit juice we've tried have been absolutely delicious when carbonated. You get all the fun of soda, without the added sugars or artificial ingredients! You can even go a step further and use fresh squeezed fruit juice.

Pro-Tip: Use a pulp-free juice for best results. Pulp can clog the Fizz Infuser, so we recommend removing pulp before carbonating. You can always add it back later if you like the pulp!

4. Carbonated Coffee?

Yes, you can carbonate coffee! But there is a stipulation-- iced coffee or cold brew only. Hot drinks don't carbonate well, and Drinkmate bottles can only handle beverages below 100°F anyway. But for cold coffee drinks, the carbonation highlights the acidity and brightness of the beans, creating a unique drink that's both energizing and refreshing. It's a bit of an acquired taste, but lots of folks love it!

Pro-Tip: Try carbonating cold brew coffee with some vanilla syrup and sugar to taste. We would not recommend using any creamer. Why, you may ask? Well...

5. Can you carbonate MILK?

We get asked this one all the time. Yes, it can carbonate milk. Yes, some people have tried it. No, we don't recommend it. There's a bit of food science behind it but to keep things simple, CO₂ does not play well with milk proteins, resulting in instant curdling.

What about non-dairy milks? Well, your mileage may vary, but it seems like anything with protein will react similarly. Soy milk will also curdle when carbonated. If you try other non-dairy milks, like almond or oat milk, let us know how that goes.

Pro-Tip: Unless you're morbidly curious, just... don't.

So yes, it can carbonate just about any drink.

Even if we can't recommend carbonating every drink, the Drinkmate soda makers can carbonate just about any drink. As long as it's pulp free and chilled, you'll be good to go. From carbonated cold brew to fizzy wine spritzers, you can transform everyday beverages into something extraordinary.

So go ahead! Experiment, fizz, and enjoy!

But maybe skip the milk.
